Generational Charitable Giving Insights from Crescendo

A common misconception about charitable giving is that it is only for retired or wealthy donors. But charitable giving is a powerful tool for individuals of all ages and income levels who want to make a philanthropic impact that is aligned with their current financial circumstances. Different gift models can provide benefits to prospective donors at any age, financial situation or life stage. These gifts can take many forms including outright gifts, bequests, charitable remainder trusts (CRTs), charitable gift annuities (CGAs), life insurance policies and more.

It is useful to examine different donor groups by age, income and financial asset values. Doing so will help nonprofits and advisors target the best giving options for charitable individuals of all ages. In their two-part series, Crescendo Interactive explores the different strategies for charitable giving across different age groups. The first installment will review charitable gifts for younger generations (20s to 40s) and middle-aged individuals (40s to 60s). The second installment will discuss giving strategies for early retirees (60s to 70s) and seniors (70s and older). By understanding how charitable giving needs and goals evolve over a lifetime, nonprofits and their advisors can create a more personalized approach to philanthropy.

Finding Community and Purpose in Planned Giving by Annabella Gonzalez

Joining SoCalCGP in early 2025 was, without a doubt, one of the best decisions I have made for my career trajectory. I entered this year eager to deepen my knowledge of planned giving, a space in philanthropy I find incredibly rewarding, and I found exactly what I was looking for.

A major catalyst for my growth was receiving a scholarship to attend the annual Western Regional Giving Conference this past May. That experience was transformative; it opened doors to networking and learning that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Beyond the conference, I have made it a priority to attend monthly education sessions throughout Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.

What I cherish most, however, is the community. It is wonderful to be part of a professional group where we can lean on one another to build a stronger knowledge base. To my fellow members: I strongly encourage you to apply for a conference scholarship and be intentional about registering for the monthly sessions. SoCalCGP is a truly strong and welcoming community. As a member you will be met with a community that is genuinely interested in your success.

WRPGC 2026

Registration is now open for the 2026 Western Regional Planned Giving Conference—lock in early bird rates by March 27!

For anyone guiding donors or clients in creating meaningful, tax-efficient gifts, this conference offers timely insights, strategies, and connections to navigate today’s changing landscape.

Featuring multiple tracks, nationally recognized keynote speakers (to be announced soon), and ample networking opportunities, the program delivers both inspiration and practical takeaways you can use immediately. Attendees also earn CE credits (CSPG, CFRE, MCLE, CAP, IPA, CFP, and more), making this a clear return on investment for you, your organization, and the donors and clients you serve.

For those traveling from outside the region, the conference is also an excellent chance to combine professional development with donor and client visits in Southern California.

There’s still time to contribute to the program—speaker proposals are due by November 1.
