Israel Cancer Research Fund in Los Angeles, CA has a unique, exciting opportunity for an Executive Director.

Organization Description:
The Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) was founded in 1975 by a group of American and Canadian cancer research scientists, oncologists, and lay people determined to harness Israel's educational and scientific resources in the fight against cancer. ICRF is the only U.S.-based charity solely devoted to supporting cancer research in Israel. Since its inception, ICRF has provided more than $40 million to support innovative studies by Israeli scientists. ICRF-funded researchers have been making significant progress and have been able to develop improved chemotherapies, advanced techniques in bone marrow transplantation, and an enhanced understanding of tumor suppressor genes, among other important advances. In 2004, two ICRF-funded scientists won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, becoming Israel’s first two scientists ever to win the most prestigious of all honors in the sciences. ICRF is a voluntary charitable organization that receives its total income from private donations.

Position Description:
The Los Angeles office is poised for growth and seeks a highly experienced, entrepreneurial and multi-talented professional to develop and implement a comprehensive major-gifts fundraising program for the organization. This program will propel ICRF-LA into the top tier of Jewish philanthropies in Southern California, and build upon ICRF's position as the largest source of private funding for cancer research in Israel. Located in ICRF-LA’s prestigious and centrally located Beverly Hills office, the Executive Director (E.D.) will be responsible for creating, developing, implementing, promoting and monitoring a major-gifts fund raising program not limited to the Greater Los Angeles area. The E.D. will work closely with his or her counterpart in ICRF’s headquarters in New York and colleagues at other ICRF chapters in the U.S., Canada and Israel to ensure the development of a unified program with appropriate synergies and efficiencies.

Qualifications Ideal candidates will have:

  • Minimum of five to eight years of front-line professional management experience in a major-gifts oriented philanthropic organization.
  • Successful proven ability in fundraising activities and programs.
  • Knowledge of fund raising for research-oriented academic institutions, medical centers, foundations or charities is essential.
  • Experience with cancer research and healthcare-related philanthropic organizations a plus.
  • General management experience.
  • Strong leadership and effective communication track record.
