Bank of America Study of Philanthropy

In recent years, the world has witnessed challenges that have changed donors' perspectives and their charitable giving. Explore the results from the 2023 Bank of America Study of Philanthropy: Charitable Giving by Affluent Households, the ninth in the research series conducted in partnership with the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.

This new study examines emerging trends, new giving patterns and shifting behaviors of U.S. affluent households that will influence philanthropy now and in the future.

Michael Wagschal is Managing Director, Endowment and Foundation Specialist for Bank of America Private Bank, West Coast Division for Philanthropic Solutions. He joined Bank of America Private Bank (formerly U.S. Trust) in 2000. His primary role is to assist the bank and its advisors when establishing business relationships with nonprofit institutions involving endowment and planned giving assets, as well as individuals with their charitable planning. He positions the firms institutional investment management, fiduciary oversight and philanthropic advisory services to public charities and private foundations.

How to Create and Maintain a Legacy Society

Practical tips for starting or expanding your organization’s Legacy Society. This session will provide an overview of key elements that build healthy and enduring Legacy Societies. Designed to be part-lecture, part-workshop, bring your real-work questions to share and workshop with the group.

Michele Bignardi, CFRE, is a senior vice president with Netzel Grigsby Associates who works with a variety of nonprofit organizations to enhance their fundraising strategies and increase the impact of their work. Michele is passionate about the power of philanthropy to build better, stronger communities.

Michele has served as lead counsel on a number of successful feasibility studies and capital campaign projects. Recent clients include Providence Holy Cross Medical Center ($7 million capital campaign), Los Angeles LGBT Center ($57 million capital campaign), Valley Beth Shalom ($30 million capital campaign), and Variety Boys & Girls Club ($10 million capital campaign).

Michele is Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and a Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG). Michele trains and coaches both professional and volunteer fundraising. She has been an instructor with the UCLA Fundraising Extension program, is the President of the Southern California Council of Charitable Gift Planners, a past President of both the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Orange County Chapter, and the Southern California Association of Healthcare Development. Michele co-chaired the Western Regional Planned Giving Conference. She received the 2019 Outstanding Leader Award from the Southern California Association of Healthcare Development, and the 2023 Outstanding Professional Award from AFPOC.
