Making the Most of Calendar Year End

At our General Meetings of the Los Angeles Council of Charitable Gift Planners, the Mini Roundtable session provides an opportunity for newer members of our field to brainstorm, network, and learn together with LACGP mentors and peers who seek a deeper understanding of gift planning. Participants are encouraged to bring a question so that the group, together, can generate an array of helpful answers. In this period of uncertainty, it seems this type of opportunity is more valuable than ever, so LACGP in partnership with the Mini Roundtable moderator, Jay Harvill, will be hosting a series of Virtual Mini Roundtable sessions.

Our Mini Roundtables are designed to be a dialog between seasoned professionals and those who are new to the field of gift planning or who have particular issues they are working through which the insight of peers can help them work through.

Virtual Mini Roundtable Topic for November 3: Making the Most of Calendar Year End

The holiday season is also the giving season, and in this session of the mini round table we will focus on what strategies deserve your attention in the final two months of the calendar year. We will discuss IRA Charitable Rollover gifts and marketing strategies around them, how to leverage #GivingTuesday in partnership with annual giving colleagues, and strategies for year-end stewardship that both thank donors and fuel their continued loyalty.

It is our hope that the Virtual Mini Roundtable can become a weekly engagement point for members of LACGP while this country adapts to responding to COVID-19 and the changes to the way we work with donors. We hope you'll join us for this session and look forward to future topics.

Note, we will limit participation to the first 15 people to allow for a conversation to take place; in the event we have more registrants, we will open a second session for additional participants.

Continuing Education:
One continuing education point has been granted by CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) International. LACGP is accredited by the State Bar of California to provide Minimum California Legal Education (MCLE). Credit hours may be self-reported to the California Board of Accountancy (CBA) for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits. Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG) credit hours may be granted on a self-reporting basis.

Jay A. Harvill, Director of Gift Planning, Methodist Hospital

Jay is the director of gift planning at Methodist Hospital Foundation and has been leading the organization's gift and estates program since 2005. He came to the non-profit world from a career in banking and has been enjoying his service in the charitable field for the past 20 years. Prior to his current role, Jay was director of gift planning at Braille Institute, where he served for seven years. Jay has been an active member with PPP-LA since 1996. Jay has served on the board, and later as president.

Over the years, Jay continued to participate in his field through various committees in both the Western Regional Planned Giving Conference and National Philanthropy Day. Jay has served in various countries to build homes and playgrounds for the disenfranchised and their children through Habitat and Kids Around the World. When not working, Jay enjoys woodworking and spending time with his family, Joshua and Robin.
