The Saban Free Clinic, formerly known as The Los Angeles Free Clinic, has been committed to providing comprehensive, dependable and affordable quality health care to the underserved and those who are most vulnerable since 1967. For over four decades our diverse and dedicated professionals have been essential in helping us fulfill that mission. Currently we are recruiting for a Director of Development. The Director of Development will report directly to and work closely with our Co-Chief Executive Officers on setting and executing high level development strategy, manage a team of talented development professionals, and work directly with donors and prospects.
Position Summary:
The Director of Development will provide vision and leadership to the development department to ensure funding for programs and projects; plans and implements strategy for all fundraising activities and participates as a member of the executive management team. As a member of the executive management team the Development Director will help formulate and implement policies and plans to meet the Clinic’s short and long-term objectives. The Development Director directs and manages the following fundraising functions through subordinate staff to ensure each generates dollars in accordance with Clinic needs and financial goals: Special Events, Annual Giving, Planned Giving, Endowment Gifts, Foundation and Government Grants, and Individual Gifts. Identifies and cultivates major donors, corporations, community business partners and develops these relationships into long-term donors and sponsors. Additionally, the incumbent will work directly with The Friends of The Saban Free Clinic, The Saban Free Clinic Board of Trustees and The Saban Free Clinic’s Board of Directors to promote and develop funding for the Clinic.
Primary Qualifications:
To perform effectively in this position, the applicant should have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Nonprofit Management, Public Relations, Communications or related discipline and 5+ years experience in the Development field is strongly preferred. Management experience strongly preferred, with demonstrated results leading teams to achieve ambitious results. Excellent verbal and written communicator: can speak compellingly about our organization, mission, and goals. Certification (CFRE) as a professional fundraiser is preferred. Applicant must also have demonstrated fundraising skills including major donor cultivation and solicitation, grant writing, special event planning and organization, annual appeals and direct mail. Valid California driver’s license required.
