The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens / Planned Giving Director
The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens is a world renowned humanities research and cultural center surrounded by breathtaking gardens.
Planned Giving Director - Advancement Division Salaried, Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week.
As a member of the department's management team, the Planned Giving Director plans, administers, markets and expands the institution's planned giving program. In this role the Planned Giving Director has extensive contact with donors and outside organizations. Reports to the Vice President for Advancement. Direct reports include a Planned Giving Coordinator.
Essential Functions:
- Establishes annual planned gift goals, including new bequest commitments and life income or life estate contracts.
- Actively manages a portfolio of planned giving prospects.
- Identifies, cultivates and solicits planned gifts from prospects and maintains regular contact with donors.
- Negotiates planned gift arrangements.
- Drafts proposals, governing documents, and deeds, consulting with legal counsel as appropriate.
- Maintains planned gift records of all agreements and monitors administration and stewardship of life income arrangements.
- Develops awareness of The Huntington in the community both needs and giving opportunities through social and professional participation.
- Maintains contacts with financial and estate planning professionals.
- Plans, organizes, and presents timely planned giving, financial, and estate planning seminars and programs.
- Implements, administers, and stewards the Arabella and Henry Huntington Heritage Society, the institution's corps of identified Planned Giving donors.
- Provides staff support to Overseers Planned Giving Committee.
- As appropriate, can cultivate and solicit major gifts from individuals and stewards relationships.
- Supervises process for accepting and processing outright gifts requiring special handling for tax reasons, including securities, real estate and major in-kind gifts.
- Works with other Advancement Division staff and volunteers in the cultivation of Huntington donor prospects.
- Interfaces with staff from program divisions as appropriate.
- Acts as a member of the management team to assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of activities in the Advancement Department.
- Conducts appropriate stewardship for donors in his/her portfolio.
- Develops, recommends, and monitors budget expenditures related to the planned giving portion of the Advancement Budget.
- Contributes relevant articles to the Huntington Calendar.
- Supervises members of the support staff as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and the incumbent must be organized and efficient. These skills and abilities are usually acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent course work. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability and personality to work collaboratively, accept responsibility, and motivate colleagues, and volunteers are also required.
