Sinai Temple in Los Angeles, CA / Chief Advancement Officer
Organization
In 1906, Sinai Temple became the first Conservative congregation in Southern California. Sinai Temple now has a membership of approximately 1500 families with more than 1,000 children attending one of Sinai’s schools each week. As a leader of modern Conservative Jewish life and thought, Sinai provides a myriad of programs, services and resources including: Sinai Akiba Academy for K through 8th grade; The Douglas Family Early childhood Center provides programs to approximately 200 children ages 2-5; Sinai Temple Religious School; Sinai Temple Israel Center; and Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries. Sinai is led by Rabbi David Wolpe who has been named one of the top Rabbis in America by Newsweek for the past five years.
Position
Sinai is embarking on creating and building a new integrated, coordinated and creative professional development and advancement function. Attracting a strong Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) is the first step in this critical process. Over the years, fundraising and development has relied on the tremendous involvement of the lay leaders and volunteers. Given the scope and quality of the Temple’s operations, this approach is no longer sufficient. In keeping with the President’s focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the Temple’s operations, the Board envisions that by establishing a full-time Advancement function, the Chief Advancement Officer will have an opportunity to harness and expand membership and community contributions. Funds for Sinai Temple support come from a variety of sources, which include membership dues, the Annual Kol Nidre Campaign, Spring Dinner/Dance, Donor Gifts, and Capital Campaigns.
Qualifications
Sinai Temple will benefit from an experienced, strategic and motivated development/fundraising professional to build a comprehensive fundraising program. The CAO will be capable of increasing annual donations and leading and managing organizational change while maintaining the integrity of Sinai Temple’s vision and mission. Ideal candidates will have: 1) a minimum of 7 years fundraising and development operations experience; 2) a successful track record of cultivating and soliciting major gifts from individual and institutional donors; 3) demonstrated marketing and special events experience and 4) a proven track record of building a successful development program.
