KCET / Executive Director, Planned & Major Gifts
A senior fundraising position reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, the Executive Director, Planned and Major Gifts will be responsible for cultivating, soliciting, closing and stewarding planned gifts and major gifts (annual gifts of $1500 or more). This position will also provide cultivation and stewardship support for those major annual donors to KCET who may be considering a planned gift, including donors stewarded by other members of the Development Department staff or KCET members identified by the Membership Marketing Department as interested in making a planned gift. This position also will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Principal Gifts, in the enhancement of KCET's cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts, whether on an annual basis or as a multi-year commitment to support of KCET's institutional conversion or one of KCET's programming initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Enhance relationships between current and prospective planned giving donors and the Office of the President. Develop and maintain knowledge of these individuals and directly solicit planned gifts, with a high volume schedule of personal contacts and involvement.
- Responsible for the management and growth of major gifts (annual gifts of $1500 or more). Work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Principal Gifts, in the enhancement of KCET's cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts, whether on an annual basis or as a multi-year commitment to support of KCET's institutional conversion or one of KCET's programming initiatives. Maintain a high volume schedule of personal contacts and stewardship and cultivation activities for a group of current and prospective major donors.
- Oversee bequest and post mortem trust administration.
- Possess knowledge of tax-exempt organizations, estate and financial planning techniques, and basic insurance products.
- Match charitable planning techniques and funding opportunities with specific needs of prospective donors, using gift planning software when necessary.
- Share knowledge and information on interactions with KCET fundraising colleagues, including other members of the Development Department staff as appropriate.
- Design and implement a planned giving marketing program, designed to inform and educate prospective donors and estate planning professionals on the benefits of charitable estate and financial planning, and to generate and service leads for planned giving prospects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Five or more years of successful planned giving and fundraising experience with both planned and major gift donors.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred; advanced degree highly desirable; Certification in Planned Giving and or Fundraising; Participation in PG Roundtable, PG Seminars and Estate Planning workshops; Estate Planning; Investment Counseling.
- Confident, goal-oriented individual with demonstrated ability to conduct solicitations of planned and major gifts independently or working collaboratively with members of the Office of the President and the Development Department.
- High degree of personal credibility and transparency in cultivating and stewarding donors.
- Commitment to the organizational goals of KCET as an independent public media organization and enthusiasm and passion for its programming and strategic initiatives.
- Ability to explain clearly and persuasively KCET's plans for institutional conversion both one-on-one and to groups.
- Ability to generate and manage a large number of complex individual gift solicitations simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and writing skills. -Must have a valid CA driver's license and an acceptable driving record; must be able to travel locally and meet with prospective and current major donors off-site as required.
